Following up with Someone who is not Getting Back


I am sure you have encountered the awkward situation where you need an answer, input or comments from a colleague or client about some matter, but it has been a while since the discussion. And now you need their response pronto! What should you do?


Avoid sending out a text message which begins with “Following up on ...” or “Checking in about ...”. Such lead-ins may make the recipient feel bad for being slow to respond, or it could just result in yet another non-response. That latter response may cause more anxiety for you.
